It has been decided to form a new Linux users group centred around ilug-cal.info. This is necessitated by administrative difficulties created by the confrontationist attitude of the admin team of ilug-cal.org. It is in the larger interests of the user community. As of now I will be coordinating Ilug-Cal.Info.

The core administrative model of ilug-cal.org continues to follow the old dictatorial model. Ilug-cal.info has been banned from being mentioned at the ilug-cal IRC #ilug-cal and more recently from the ilug-cal discuss mailing list. A message containing the updated link to Prashant's article was rejected 'without any reason' (by the moderator).

There is no limit to the scope of work relating to the advancement of OSS and FLOSS. And vast areas where OSS can matter are still not being properly looked into. Different categories of users have different kinds of interests. Even a hundred Lugs cannot cater to all of them simultaneously. Bread will be less popular if only one instead of a hundred shops sell it.

Ilug-Cal.Info has done enough to have more than a good infrastructure in place. We have already undertaken some school projects. Within this itself there is tremendous scope for development of the Lug. We are examining other categories of users for possible ground-level projects. It is also true that ilug-cal.info has done substantial work of the documentation kind.

Again the core admin team of ilug-cal.org has been wanting a split right from the beginning... the beginning of ilug-cal.info. It has been a virtual cold war with potential contributers being forced to lie low. Ilug-Cal.org has done some good work for the coding community recently. It is also for this that we are permitting the split. Perhaps that is the way we can cooperate better.

I hope members of Ilug-Cal will contribute to the development of both the LUGs from now onwards.
